DeewanDocs
API keys

Quickstart

Create a key, a room and a join link.

1. Create an API key

In Deewan, open Developers in the sidebar and choose Create key. Copy the key — it is shown once. Store it in your server's environment, for example DEEWAN_API_KEY.

API keys are server secrets. Never put one in a web page, a mobile app, or a public repository.

2. Install the SDK (optional)

bash
npm install @deewan/sdk

3. Create a room

Node.js
import { Deewan } from "@deewan/sdk";

const deewan = new Deewan({ apiKey: process.env.DEEWAN_API_KEY! });

const room = await deewan.rooms.create({
  name: "Onboarding call",
  settings: { admission: "knock", screen_share: "hosts" },
});
curl
curl https://deewan.io/api/v1/rooms \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $DEEWAN_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"name":"Onboarding call","settings":{"admission":"knock"}}'
ts
const { url } = await deewan.rooms.createJoinLink(room.id, {
  name: "Sara Ahmed", // shown to everyone in the meeting
  role: "host",         // or "participant"
  user_id: "user_123",  // your id, keeps a stable identity
  expires_in: 3600,     // seconds
  locale: "ar",         // Arabic interface
});

// Redirect Sara to `url`, or email it to her.

That's it: Sara opens the link, checks her camera and microphone, and is in an end-to-end encrypted meeting with Deewan's full interface. Create a separate link for each person.
